Hi everyone, today I'll share my thoughts about Madison Beer`s new album. First thing first I have to say this is the greatest debut album since Lady Gaga's “The Fame'' and Billie Eilish “when we all fall, asleep where do we go?”. I`m glad that Madison finally released and solidified her as an artist in this industry.
“Life Support” is a dark pop album with R&B influences. It is kind of a concept album, she’s talking about her mental health illness, toxic relationships and even death and suicide.
Madison said that in this time music was the thing that kept her alive, that’s why the album is titled “Life Support”.
The album starts with “The Beginning”, an intro with just the dark (haunted) instrumentals and Madison’s vocals. I really love it, you don’t see something like this on every debut album.
The intro is switching in “Good in Goodbye”, an amazing song if you ask me. I saw that a lot of people don’t like it for different reasons. Anyway, I think the beat is pretty, it gives me a Hallloween vibe, the lyrics are genius just listen:
You put the "over" in "lover," put the "ex" in "next"
Ain't no "I" in "trouble," just the "U" since we met
'Cause you're toxic, boy, I ain't even gotta try to find the
G-O-O-D in goodbye
This song is about a toxic relationship that just ended (I think).
Next track, “Default’, is a slow ballad about anxiety. The chorus it’s very dreamy; it represents the “default”.Then (i think) the outro represents the present, where she’s making references to death and the fact that this relationship means her ‘end’
“Following the White Rabbit” is a chaotic song about following the light, the bright spot to “ see the truth”. The production is dark reminding me of Halloween (again). It is a grower, not love at first sight.
“Effortlessly” is about being diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, an illness that Madison has. It showcases some of the problems that she struggles with this illness.
“Stay Numb and Carry On” is one of my favorite’s from this album. The lyrical content is about getting numb from a toxic/fake relationship. We see that she’s making a lot of references to the toxic partner in this album.
“Blue” represents sadness, is about a beautiful relationship that was supposed to end anytime and running from it at the perfect time (when you cry too much).
The vocal effects on this reminds me of Billie Eilish.
“Interlude” is very cute….
Next track is ‘’Homesick”. Here she’s making references to her parents relationship (I think) and she doesn't want to repeat the history somehow. Also she says that she’s misunderstood in this situation.
“These humans speak my language, still don't understand it”
Track number 10, “Selfish”. It is about being in a relationship where you expect a change from your partner’s personality, but this never actually happens. The way she delivers everything here is heartbreaking, is one of her best ballads for sure.
‘’Sour Times” - I don’t understand this song’s meaning, so please write it down in the comments if you have an idea about it. The production is beautiful too.
“BOYSHIT” - One of the catchiest songs on the whole album, the production is different, the beat is infectious as hell. The lyrical content is not the strongest.
“Baby”. This is the brightest song on this album. Is the only song that doesn't make references to toxic relationships. It is actually about a lover that “turn her on '' you got me, right? The production is dreamy and light. The subject matter reminds me of “Be My Baby” by Ariana Grande.
Track 14, “Stained Glass” - this is for sure her best ballad with her best lyrics. You can hear the pain from her voice. The chorus is catchy and heartbreaking at the same time. You can cry effortlessly on this track. It is about being too damaged till you become soft like glass. Also she’s making references to death.
Track 15. “Emotional Bruises”. I think this is a sequel to “Stained Glass” and the scars that came after being broke.
It gives me Camila Cabello vibes somehow.
“Everything Happens For A Reason” - Here she can't find the reason why everything happens for a reason. Is a cute short ballad that showcase Madson’s vocals (like the other ones).
And the last track on this album “Channel Surfing/ The End'' which is a compilation to some of her songs from this album and a little snippet of an unreleased song with the words “ Thank u so much” a the end.
These were my thoughts on this beautiful album, I think this is definitely the best album of 2021 ( so far )
