2025 GRAMMY AWARDS NOMINATIONS: THOUGHTS AND PREDICTIONS - WHY IS IT THE BEST NOMINATIONS LIST FROM THE LAST 15 YEARS?
Hello everyone, Tyoma here after about two years of silence I'm thrilled to come back here and do the same thing as I did back in the day: Share my thoughts on pop culture updates!
Today, I'm going to express my opinions, ideas, and feelings on the newly announced nominees for the 2025 Annual Grammy Awards, an event that many of us have waited for.
As many of you probably noticed, 2024 has brought us one of the greatest years in music. With iconic movements such as 'brat summer' a genius marketing movement that went viral with the release of Charli xcx's new album in June – 'brat', a body of work met with universal critical acclaimed, being the most critically acclaimed release of this year, showcasing an immaculate electronic production with lyrics connecting to various themes from partying all night and being an 'it girl' to being vulnerable and facing with life struggles.
The rise of new artists and genres into the mainstream, such as the country movement represented by Beyonce with her latest record 'Cowboy Carter', Boone, and many others.
Within the new artist that emerged in 2024, we have Chapell Roan, who brought her uniqueness to radio stations and festival crowds. Many would make a parallel between her and the iconic Lady Gaga from the late '00s, showcasing her unmatched crazy costumes and building a character, an aura, that made her indistinguishable.
As a result of the numerous critically acclaimed and massive releases of this year, this year's Grammy Nominations are a true blood bath caught in 4k. I would say, arguably one of the best nominations list from the last 15 years.
Without further interferences, let's get into them:
2025 GRAMMY Nominations Full List
General Field
CATEGORY 1
Record Of The Year
Award to the Artist(s), Album Producer(s), Recording Engineer(s), and/or Mixer(s), and Mastering Engineer(s) if other than the artist.
NOMINEES:
"Now and Then" – The Beatles
"TEXAS HOLD 'EM" – BeyoncĂ©
"Espresso" – Sabrina Carpenter
"360" – Charli xcx
"BIRDS OF A FEATHER" – Billie Eilish
"Not Like Us" – Kendrick Lamar
"Good Luck, Babe!" – Chappell Roan
"Fortnight" – Taylor Swift Featuring Post Malone
I will start by saying that all these releases truly deserve to be here finally a year with true competition when any of these records have equal chances of winning due to their undeniable appeal and quality.
To pick a single record from this category will be a really tough decision, my personal favourite, with a production that stands out on a more subtle layer is ''Birds of a Feather'' by Billie Eilish. The 22-year-old artist and her brother did it again, managed to deliver one of the best written and produced records of the year, absolute pop perfection!
Other considerable mentions would be 'Not Like Us' by Kendrick Lamar – one of the best diss tracks of all time, that served as the fundament for another iconic pop culture moment of this year and '360' by Charly xcx – I would`ve picked '365' for the category if I were the Recording Academy, but their pick works just fine for me, outstanding production, I'm truly happy to see Charli getting her long-awaited flowers 10 years after dipping into the mainstream.
CATEGORY 2
Album Of The Year
Award to Artist(s) and to Featured Artist(s), Songwriter(s) of new material, Producer(s), Recording Engineer(s), Mixer(s) and Mastering Engineer(s) credited with 20% or more playing time of the album.)
New Blue Sun – AndrĂ© 3000
COWBOY CARTER – BeyoncĂ©
Short n' Sweet – Sabrina Carpenter
BRAT – Charli xcx
Djesse Vol. 4 – Jacob Collier
HIT ME HARD AND SOFT – Billie Eilish
Chappell Roan The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess – Chappell Roan
THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT – Taylor Swift
I would like this category: THE ULTIMATE BLOOD BATH, since we've got such monumental releases from huge names such as Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Sabrina Carpenter, Beyonce but also breakthrough records such as 'The Rise and Fall of the Midwest Princess'' by Chapell Roan and 'brat' by Charli xcx.
My prediction is either 'Hit me hard and soft' by Billie Eilish or 'brat' by Charli xcx.
Billie is no stranger to being a Grammy's darling, having numerous acknowledgeable awards from the Academy received in the past few years. Charli on the other hand has stolen the critic's hearts with her new record, being the most acclaimed record of the year - I would be really happy to see her taking home this award.
Another considerable release nominated in this category is none other than Queen B herself – her new record takes the country genre on a whole another level, Beyonce developed a truly unique, compelling body of work that may finally allow her to go home with the biggest award of the night for the first time in her career (despite having 99 nominations and 32 wins, she has never won an 'Album of The Year' award so far).
CATEGORY 3
Song Of The Year
A Songwriter(s) Award. A song is eligible if it was first released or if it first achieved prominence during the Eligibility Year. (Artist names appear in parentheses.) Singles or Tracks only.
"A Bar Song (Tipsy)" — Sean Cook, Jerrel Jones, Joe Kent, Chibueze Collins Obinna, Nevin Sastry & Mark Williams, songwriters (Shaboozey)
"BIRDS OF A FEATHER" — Billie Eilish O'Connell & Finneas O'Connell, songwriters (Billie Eilish)
"Die With A Smile" — Dernst Emile II, James Fauntleroy, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars & Andrew Watt, songwriters (Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars)
"Fortnight" — Jack Antonoff, Austin Post & Taylor Swift, songwriters (Taylor Swift Featuring Post Malone)
"Good Luck, Babe!" — Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, Daniel Nigro & Justin Tranter, songwriters (Chappell Roan)
"Not Like Us" — Kendrick Lamar, songwriter (Kendrick Lamar)
"Please Please Please" — Amy Allen, Jack Antonoff & Sabrina Carpenter, songwriters (Sabrina Carpenter)
"TEXAS HOLD 'EM" — Brian Bates, BeyoncĂ©, Elizabeth Lowell Boland, Megan BĂĽlow, Nate Ferraro & Raphael Saadiq, songwriters (BeyoncĂ©)
Personally, I have trouble understanding what Sabrina is doing here, she could've easily been replaced with 'we can't be friends' by Ariana Grande (which has been snubbed from The Big Four this year). Making abstraction of that, the category is really solid and I may sound like a broken record but this would be again – the ultimate slother.
I hope this will deservingy go to Kendrick, as we all can acknowledge his persistence and relevance in the Hip-Hop community, this would certify his iconicness, and solidify his status as a powerful force in pop culture.
Sincerely, I can see any of these winning this award.
CATEGORY 4
Best New Artist
This category recognizes an artist whose eligibility-year release(s) achieved a breakthrough into the public consciousness and notably impacted the musical landscape.
Benson Boone
Sabrina Carpenter
Doechii
Khruangbin
Raye
Chappell Roan
Shaboozey
Teddy Swims
Another tough category, many respectable names that solidified themselves through the year. I would like to pick three artists that are most likely to win, in my humble opinion: Chapell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter and Benson Boone. I would love to see Chapell taking this home, as she established herself as a powerful force with relevance and dedicated fans. She has shown us personality, authenticity, and effortless talent in entertaining the masses – a true winner, I hope she won't be cursed because of winning this award. 🙂
Best Pop Solo Performance
For new vocal or instrumental pop recordings. Singles or Tracks only.
"BODYGUARD" — BeyoncĂ©
"Espresso" — Sabrina Carpenter
"Apple" — Charli xcx
"BIRDS OF A FEATHER" — Billie Eilish
"Good Luck, Babe!" — Chappell Roan
It almost feels illegal to pick a song from all of these, my personal favorite would be 'Birds of a Feather' but it has just as many chances of winning as the rest of the songs.
Best Pop Duo/Group Performance
For new vocal or instrumental duo/group or collaborative pop recordings. Singles or Tracks only.
"us." — Gracie Abrams Featuring Taylor Swift
"LEVII'S JEANS" — BeyoncĂ© Featuring Post Malone
"Guess" — Charli xcx & Billie Eilish
"the boy is mine" — Ariana Grande, Brandy & Monica
"Die With A Smile" — Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars
Predictions: Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars/ Backup: Charli xcx and Billie Eilish
CATEGORY 9
Best Pop Vocal Album
For albums containing greater than 75% playing time of new pop vocal recordings.
Short n' Sweet — Sabrina Carpenter
HIT ME HARD AND SOFT — Billie Eilish
eternal sunshine — Ariana Grande
Chappell Roan The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess — Chappell Roan
THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT — Taylor Swift
As a former Arianator, I'm rooting for 'eternal sunshine' to win this, but I can easily see this going to Billie Eilish or Chapell Roan. Taylor's album on the other hand is the worst body of work she has put out in years, washed out production and creative numbness - a total disgrace.
Best Dance Pop Recording
For solo, duo, group, or collaborative performances. Vocal or Instrumental. Singles or tracks only.
"Make You Mine" — Madison Beer
Madison Beer & Leroy Clampitt, producers; Mitch McCarthy, mixer
"Von dutch" — Charli xcx
Finn Keane, producer; Tom Norris, mixer
"L’AMOUR DE MA VIE [OVER NOW EXTENDED EDIT]" — Billie Eilish
Billie Eilish & FINNEAS, producers; Jon Castelli & Aron Forbes, mixers
"yes, and?" — Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande, ILYA & Max Martin, producers; Serban Ghenea, mixer
"Got Me Started" — Troye Sivan
Ian Kirkpatrick, producer; Alex Ghenea, mixer
I gotta say 'Von Dutch' is the real Record of the Year in my opinion, and I think it's the only right answer when it comes to who's winning this. As a second pick, I would say Ariana with her new record's lead single.
CATEGORY 12
Best Dance/Electronic Album
For vocal or instrumental albums. Albums only.
BRAT — Charli xcx
Three — Four Tet
Hyperdrama — Justice
TIMELESS — KAYTRANADA
Telos — Zedd
The answer is 'brat'.
Best Rap Performance
For a Rap performance. Singles or Tracks only.
"Enough (Miami)" — Cardi B
"When The Sun Shines Again" — Common & Pete Rock Featuring Posdnuos
"NISSAN ALTIMA" — Doechii
"Houdini" — Eminem
"Like That" — Future & Metro Boomin Featuring Kendrick Lamar
"Yeah Glo!" — GloRilla
"Not Like Us" — Kendrick Lamar
Hands down 'Not Like Us'.
These were my thoughts and predictions on the 2025 Grammy nominations. An amazing year for pop culture. May the best bodies of work to win.
See you, or not :)
