2020 is about to end. Last Sunday, I talked about Top 15 Songs of 2020, and I admitted that 2020 is an amazing year for Pop Music, with the 80’s inspired songs/albums.
Click here to read my last article about Top 15 Songs of 2020.
Now what about the albums ? Today is the day when I’ll discuss the Top 10 Albums of this amazing year.
10. Everything Means Nothing - blackbear
This is my favorite album from blackbear. The tracks on this are very disco/pop inspired, is a fresh combination between pop and trap.
The tracks are so damn catchy, his flow is top notch and the production of every single track on this is technically the same but different (is that making any sense?).
Some of the highlights of this album are: hot girl bummer, me & ur ghost, queen of broken hearts, i feel bad and half alive.
9. Plastic Hearts - Miley Cyrus
I actually did a review/ranking to this. My thoughts changed a little bit about this album. I still think it is the best rock album of 2020 but songs like ‘’WTF Do I Know’’ grew on me a lot.
Anyway the vocals, production and lyricism - everything is top notch.
Her voice is a little bit raspy, I think this is already a characteristic of Miley.
And this is her best album (from a mile).
Some of the highlights : WTF Do I Know, Plastic Hearts, Night Crawling, Midnight Sky, Prisoner.
I still don’t like ‘’Angels Like You’’.
8. Heaven and Hell - Ava Max
This is a good debut, and it solidified Ava in the music industry.
Many people criticized this album due to its generic production and lyricism.
Now listen to me - that’s true, this album could be even more successful than ‘’Teenage Dream’’ but now when disco and trap are the main genres it can’t be a relevant record, right? No. Here’s why:
All 14 tracks (excepting ‘’Born To The Night’’) are pretty catchy.
The production is so goddamn good. The entire album is produced by Cirkut, an incredible producer.
This contains empowering hits, she’s abording the theme of insecurities somehow. Due to the genericism, the album lacks personality.
Highlights: Torn, Kings and Queens, Salt, H.E.A.V.E.N.
7. Manic - Halsey
This is such an incredible album.
The subject matter is mental health, is very emotional and at the end of the day - manic.
The listening experience is pretty good. The production is pop/trap, it includes some rock inspirations on certain tracks.
The lyrics are the key component of this masterpiece.
The highlights: clementine, 3am, graveyard, I’m not Mad.
6. Good News- Megan Thee Stallion
This album is filled with Megan’s gorgeous nasty flow and her wet a$$ nasty bars.
Megan continue with this album her signature style with heavy trap beats and aggressive/ nasty lyrics.
The highlights: Savage Remix, Don’t Stop, Body, Circles, Movie, Outside, What’s New.
Check out my review about this masterpiece here.
5. Hot Pink - Doja Cat
This album solidified Doja as an artist in the music industry.
With Hot Pink, Doja shared with us her signature style, some cute produced songs, her voice has that rasp, and smoothness. I think every single song on this album is a highlight.
But my favorites are: Say So (one of the best songs of 2020), Like That and Rules, overall each song from this album is amazing.
4. BLAME IT ON BABY (DELUXE) - DaBaby
This is the best HIP-HOP album of 2020. His nasty flow is unbelievable, I think he’s the best rapper of our time.
The lyrics are pretty good. I associate him with a male version of Megan Thee Stallion.
The Deluxe version makes this album even better. I can’t say this album has any highlight because every track is special in its way. However my favorite song from the entire album is ‘’Blind’’.
3. Chromatica - Lady Gaga
This album is such a masterpiece. The whole concept of it is amazing and the album itself demonstrates that Gaga never loses her skills.
The album is described as a process of healing from mental illnesses. It has some simple lyrics (which are very good at all), they’re pretty straight forward.
Chromatica iis divided in 3 acts, each act has its own interlude which has a smooth transition with the next track.
Now the album. It is a 90’s house inspired album, with electro- pop influences - The Pop Gaga is back.
The lyrics are very sad sometimes but the beat is still ‘’beating’’. Like dancing through your insecurities.
It contains empowering anthems like ‘’Rain On Me’’ and ‘’Stuid Love’’, those types of tracks are situated in the first act.
The second act is a journey of healing, this is the most emotional and the part where Gaga talks about those mental illnesses and what really represents them. My favorites out of this act are ‘’Replay’’ and ‘’911’’.
The 3rd act is the shortest one and it contains some powerful tracks like ‘’1000 Doves’’ and ‘’Sine from above’’.
The highlights are: Rain On Me, Stupid Love, 911, Replay, Alice and Babylon.
2. Positions - Ariana Grande
Positions isn’t Ariana’s best album. I still think ‘’Thank u, next’’ is an album that she will never surpass in quality.
Positions is a very good album at all. It represents a sign of maturity in Ariana’s discography, here she’s talking about some explicit themes. Songs like ‘’obvious’’,’’34+35’’ and ‘’nasty’’ proves that.
Talking about the production of the album it has similarities with Sweetener and Thank u, next albums , the characteristic that make this album more unique is the classical music instrumentals. Overall is a sister album of sweetener (which is one of her bests). This doesn't contain really much commercial material/ radio designed songs or radio friendly, and that’s good but sad at the same time, it doesn't have that highlight or something. For example Sweetener have God is a woman and breathin, here the most aproched song of a radio hit/hit is ‘’POV’’(also the best track).
1.Future Nostalgia - Dua Lipa
Album of the year from a mile.
Everything about this album is top notch, starting with the very pop 80’s inspired and the genius lyrics. Every single track has a nasty energy, it screams power and fun.
I think every single track from this masterpiece deserves a 10/10.
Highlights: Don’t Start Now, Physical, Levitating, Hallucinate, Break My Heart.
Those are my favorite albums released in 2020.
