Is Positions by Ariana Grande the new thank u next? L`est find out together / Positions Ranking and Review
Miss Ariana Grande finally dropped her highly anticipated album titled ``positions`` on October 30th.
Overall the album is more experimental than the other ones but fits very well with sweetener or even thank u, next. Positions don`t have too much ``genius lyricism`` or even ``deep lyrics``, it is straight forward and it was made from pure fun.
Positions was released as the lead single on October 23, it did 18 million views in its first day on YouTube and was #1 on Spotify US and Global.
The album with the same title(positions) was released on October 30. It contains 14 new tracks and have some R&B influences alongside some trap inspired songs. The general theme of positions is love, sex and having fun.
Album Review
This album sounds very fresh and timeless I can say because of the 90`s disco inspired tracks such as Motive, and because of the classical music influences on trcks such as shut up and pov. I can`t say this album is more dark or light because we have tracks like off the table and west side which are chill and moodier but we have tracks like six thirty and 34+35 which are so fun and ridiculous from certain aspects.
The lyrics in this album are very simple but in the same time have some connections to other songs that Ariana done in the past such as the connection between pov and ghostin and others. But the lyrical content is very simple and explicit in the same time. We have tracks like 34+35 which is ridiculous Ariana said, this song is basically the dirtiest and the more explicit song Ariana and her friends could ever made. But we have R&B ballads such as pov, which have some beautiful crafted lyrics and a beautiful message.
I can`t say this is my fav album by Ariana but is top 2.
The vocals are pretty strong on this album, overall sonically this album is R&B with trap elements and some classic music elements and some exceptions. I feel like Ariana felt free when she created this, this isn`t crafted to b a commercial success or something, this is just having fun and be free creating ART.
Ranking (from worst to best)+ song comment
14. off the table(ft.The Weekend)
This song don`t connect with me. Is very deep, I feel that but is just not good for me because of the length and because is boring . Not my type of song, i like the vocals and the lyrics are really good. The production is very good \too.
Basically this is a story and The Weekend plays the boy from the story and Ariana the girl.
Rating: 7/10 (not good )
13. shut up
Shut up is a very catchy song with classical music influences that makes it sounding like a Disney movie, the lyrics are pretty straight forward and the vocals are beautiful but the chorus. Its the most inspiration less chorus I`ve been heard from her. The chorus feels incomplete. And strange.
Rating: 8/10(not bad but not the good)
12. west side
This sounds more like an interlude than an actual tracks, is very chill and calm. The song is about having a slow intimate moment without any rush.
Rating 8.5/10 (good)
11. obvious
This is a good song, is about how much she likes her partner and have some references about their intimate life . Nothing really special.
Rating: 8/10 (good)
10. six thirty
When I first listened to this song I hated it but it grew on me so much in the last 2 days. I realized that this song don`t have to be a bop if I want it to be good. Six thirty is about being down like six thirty on the clock it reminds me a lot of 34+35 but that`s another story.
Rating: 9/10 (very good)
7. love language
This song have a 90`s diva influence and that makes it timeless. The song is about ``speaking love `` with somebody if you give what I`m sayng.
Rating: 8.5/10 (good)
8. 34+35
This song I hated too when I first listened to it but it grew on me because of the hype and because I realized that it is ridiculous and fun (Ariana said that too), is a song that`s about having fun and abouth f****8 til the daylight with you partner. Also it is the most explicit song on this album.
Rating: 10/10(immaculate)
7. just like magic
Just like magic is about thinking hard at one idea that become reality and had succes and the question is how? - just like magic. It have a structure o a trap song and Ariana have a nice delivery on it.
Rating: 10/10 (immaculate)
6. positions
This song is special because of the hype and of the music video which is really good. The lyrical content is very simple and the production is trap but you don`t realize that from the first sight.
Rating: 10/10
5. safety net (ft. ty dolla sign)
This is very emotional, is about a relationship where the things are moving so fast and you just fall with no safety net. It sounds very present and beautiful. Ty dolla sign and Ariana have some good chemistry and they are kinda singing a duet at the end of the song.
Rating: 10/10
4. motive (ft. Doja Cat)
This is very disco inspired and it`s so good. I really enjoy the lyrics and the energy from both Ariana and Doja Cat, Doja have such a nasty and sassy delivery in this, love her flow.
Rating: 10/10
the holy trinity
3. pov
This is the perfect ballad or something. The production is calm and warm, the production have some effects that makes the song such a beautiful experience. The lyrics are the best from the entire album.
Pov means point of view , is about having some flaws that you partner likes and how you want to see yourself from his point of view.
Rating: 10/10
2. my hair
This song is very 90s inspired, is so powerful with some super cosmic vocals from Ari. The production, lyrical content and the vocals are fitting so well together.
Rating 10/10
1. nasty
This is the song that I wait from march. Like Ari dropped a snippet of it on Instagram back in march and I was very excited about his continuation. Actually this song is so energetic and fun and beautiful with a super powerful intro with some whistles tones in the background then a production that have some effects that brings you to another reality, I love it so much.
Rating: 10/10
